Day 13 - Cusco, Peru (5th Jan 12)

"Cusco  often spelled Cuzco (SpanishCuzcoIPA: [ˈkuθko] or [ˈkusko]QuechuaQusqu or QosqoIPA: [ˈqɔsqɔ]), is a city in southeastern Peru, near the Urubamba Valley of the Andes mountain range. It is the capital of the Cusco Region as well as the Cuzco Province. In 2007, the city had a population of 358,935 which was triple the figure of 20 years ago. Located on the eastern end of the Knot of Cuzco, its elevation is around 3,400 m (11,200 ft).

Cusco was the site of the historic capital of the Inca Empire and was declared a World Heritage Site in 1983 by UNESCO. It is a major tourist destination and receives almost 2 million visitors a year. It is designated as the Historical Capital of Peru by the Constitution of Peru."

Coca Leave (where Cocaine was derived, and the Coca Cola Soft drink as well)
Drink it as a tea, it was good for Altitude Sickness.
It is common to find coca leave, as it has many medicinal properties and used by the Peruvians for generations. It was only in recent years that they used it derive cocaine drug.

Lovely - Plaza De Ames
Love the Blue Sky!

Law Faculty of a University

Very nice buildings.
We had a long chat with the law professor to understand the education system in Cusco and Peru. She was very experienced and shared with us that some of the policy makers and judges are her students. In fact, she invited us to attend her lecture on a weekday (unfortunately, our schedule was quite full).

Local musician.
He played a famous song, which I recognized but I did not know that it was originated from Cusco.

Chatting with the local musicians in Plaza De Ames.
A good place for socializing and people watching.

Beautiful City!

Mac'donald and Rainbow Flag.
If you are in San Francisco, the rainbow flag is a symbol of gay pride.
However, in Peru, it is actually the flag of Cusco.

Interesting to see how symbol differs in different context.
=)

Colourful lady.

Ruin

I was quite bored with the ruin visit, and the local tour guide was explaining to us by alternating between Spanish and English. It was really boring.

Found pleasure in observing the small flower and looking at the sky.

View of Cusco City.

Stunning!
