Barren Landscape

"Laguna Hedionda is a saline lake in the Nor Lípez Province, Potosí Department in Bolivia. It is notable for various migratory species of pink and white flamingos. The lake, for many years, was also called "Stinking Lake" and appeared on most maps with this name. TheSpanish version of the name La Laguna Grande Hedionda means "a spring of sulphur-tainted water near the lake."[1][2][3][4]
The Laguna Hedionda is one of the nine small saline lakes in the Andean Altiplano. It lies at an altitude of 4,121 metres (13,520 ft), with an area of 3 square kilometres (1.2 sq mi). Salt flats and bofedales (wetlands) are spread over the periphery of the lake. It is in a very remote area where human habitation is negligible. However, llamas and alpacas are seen grazing in the area"

Flamingos on flight.

Delicious Lunch prepared by our driver-cum-guide-cum-chef.
My favourite is the grilled banana.
=)

Arbol de Piedra - 4412m
A stone tree that has been carved out of the howling, sandy winds.

"Árbol de Piedra ("stone tree") is an isolated rock formation in the Eduardo Avaroa Andean Fauna National Reserve of Sur Lípez Province,Bolivia. Much photographed, it projects out of the altiplano sand dunes of Siloli in the Potosí Department, about 18 kilometres (11 mi) north ofLaguna Colorado. Known as “Stone Tree”, it is shaped as a stunted tree, and is formed as a thin rock because of strong winds"

This is my favourite lake - I have never seen a red lake teeming with life!!!

Colorada Lake - 4278m

"aguna Colorada (Red Lagoon) is a shallow salt lake in the southwest of the altiplano ofBolivia, within Eduardo Avaroa Andean Fauna National Reserve and close to the border withChile. The lake contains borax islands, whose white color contrasts with the reddish color of its waters, which is caused by red sediments and pigmentation of some algaeLaguna Colorada is one of the Ramsar Wetlands of International Importance under theRamsar Convention signed in 1971.[1] James's Flamingos abound in the area. Also it is possible to find Andean and Chilean flamingos, but in a minor quantity."

Stunningly Beautiful!!!

Feeding time.

We were either very smart or very stupid.
Drinking wine & beer on a small hill during the cold & very windy evening. Supposedly watching the sunset, just that sunset was behind us. Who cares about being smart or stupid as long as it is fun!!

We had an International Karaoke Session!!
Swede, Aussie, French, Argentinian & Singaporeans.
